Appleton North softball finishes 1-2 at Winneconne Invitational

WINNECONNE – The Appleton North softball team won one of three games at the Winneconne Invitational on Saturday.
Appleton North lost to Freedom 19-4, shutout New London 5-0 and fell to Winneconne 15-2 to move to 5-9 this season.
Freedom scored 15 times in the second inning of the first game of the day and went on to win in three innings via the 15-run rule.
Alyssa Wald had a double, a home run and three RBI in the loss for the Lightning.
Charlotte Radtke struck out 12 and walked just one while limiting New London to only two hits in a complete game effort to post North’s lone win of the day.
Callie Weber hit a home run, Wald had two more hits and two RBI, and Alice Hendrick and Maggie Hendrick each had two hits as well for the Lightning.
Appleton North was held to two hits in the loss to Winneconne, which ended after five due to the 10-run rule.
Lila Griffith and Wald both drove in runs for the Lightning.
Appleton North hosts Appleton East on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
