FVL’s Kusserow shoots 80, Xavier in eighth place after opening day of 2025 WIAA State Boys Golf Championships

MADISON – Fox Valley Lutheran junior Kaden Kusserow shot an 80 and is in a tie for 54th place in the Division 1 individual standings after the first day of the 2025 WIAA State Boys Golf Championships at University Ridge Golf Club.

Kusserow, the first FVL boys golfer to reach the state tournament since 2003, had two birdies on the back nine to shoot an even-par 36 following a front nine 44.

Kusserow is in a six-way tie for 54th, which includes Neenah’s Cartyr Simonson.

Hudson’s Drake Card shot a 4-under par 68, to take the individual lead. His only bogey of the round came on the first hole, and he had five birdies and 12 pars the rest of the way.

Milwaukee Marquette took command in the team standings shooting an astounding 284. Hayes Packee had 70, and Alex Kim and Creede Neuberger shot 71 as they stand in second and a tie for third in the individual standings.

Hudson is in second place after shooting a 300, with Oconomowoc and Middleton tied for third with 304s after the opening day of the tournament.

In Division 2, Xavier sits in eighth out of the eight teams after a first-day total of 342.

Grant Neumann had an 82 to lead Xavier and he is in a four-way tie for 19th place, eight shots behind co-leaders Fritz Knudtson and Kian Bystol Flores of Cambridge.

Seymour leads the Division 2 team standings after the first day with a score of 321, five strokes better than Lakeland.

Derek Watry had an 83, Jonah Gentry shot 88, Kyle Watry had an 89 and Jack Schmidtke fired a 90 as well for the Hawks.

Round 2 in the Division 1 and Division 2 tournaments will begin at noon on Tuesday.
