FVL’s Kusserow ties for 50th in D-1, Xavier places eighth in D-2 at WIAA State Boys Golf Championships

MADISON – Fox Valley Lutheran junior Kaden Kusserow moved up four spots and ended up in a tie for 50th place in the Division 1 field after shooting a 79 on the second day of the 2025 WIAA State Boys Golf Championships at University Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday.

Kusserow, who had an 80 on Monday and entered play in a tie for 54th, improved by a stroke and finished in a five-way tie for 50th with the two-day total of 159.

Xavier also improved on Day 2 in the Division 2 tournament, besting Monday’s 342 by three strokes, but could not move up in the standings and finished eighth.

Derek Watry led the Hawks with an 81 on Tuesday and finished with a two-day score of 163, which was tied for 22nd among the 52 competitors.

Jonah Gentry shot 84, Kyle Watry had an 85, Grant Neumann had an 89 and Jack Schmidtke shot 94 on Tuesday for Xavier. Neumann ended up 29th (171), Gentry tied for 30th (172), Kyle Watry tied for 34th (174) and Schmidtke finished 45th (184) overall.

Seymour won the D-2 team title, the first for the Thunder in program history, with a 638, 15 shots in front of Cambridge. Xavier’s 681 was six shots behind seventh-place Prescott.

Kian Bystol Flores of Cambridge and Vince Sigl of Seymour tied for the Division 2 individual title with scores of 147.

Wauankee’s Peyton Albers fired a 3-under par 69 on Tuesday and tied for the Division 1 individual state title with first-day leader Drake Card of Hudson as both finished with a total of 140.

Durand-Arkansaw won the Division 3 title with a 651, 10 strokes in front of second-place Chetek-Weyhaeuser.

Tucker Johnson of Neillsville won the D-3 individual title with a two-day total of 152, shooting 76 both days.

Milwaukee Marquette ran away with the Division 1 team title with a two-day score of 584, which was 19 strokes better than runner-up Hudson. The state title is Marquette’s fourth, with others coming in 2016, 2018 and 2019.
