Appleton Doubledays come up short to Middleton at Class AAA State Legion Baseball Tournament

STEVENS POINT – Middleton pushed across an unearned run in the sixth inning and defeated the Appleton Doubledays 4-3 in a winners’ bracket game at the Class AAA Wisconsin State American Legion Baseball Tournament on Wednesday night at Bukolt Park.

The Doubledays (16-4) will play an elimination game against Oconomowoc (13-11) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Appleton struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning when Cade Prestigiacomo singled and scored on a two-out error.

The Doubledays tacked on two more in the third as Prestigiacomo and Lincoln Thede had back-to-back doubles, and Thede scored on a bases-loaded walk by Mason Winkler.

That would be all Appleton would get. Middleton tied the game in the fourth on a bases-loaded, three-run double by August Faessler, and went ahead in the sixth on a sacrifice fly.

The Doubledays left two runners on in both the fifth and sixth innings, and were sent down in the order in the seventh as they fell one run short.

Prestigiacomo had three of Appleton’s 10 hits in the loss.
