Appleton West baseball splits twinbill with River Valley

MAUSTON – The Appleton West baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader with River Valley on Saturday at the Woodside Sports Complex, losing Game 1 8-5 before coming back with a 6-1 win.

After Loren Georger hit a two-run homer for West in the top of the first inning of the opener, River Valley responded with five runs in the bottom half and led the rest of the way.

Dimitry Edmunds went 4-for-4, and Quinn Meyers had two hits and scored twice for the Terrors.

In Game 2, the game was tied 1-1 after 2½ innings before West pulled away with five runs over its final four at-bats.

Beau Brown went the distance on the mound for Appleton West, striking out seven and walking just one while allowing only two hits. He also had two hits and two RBI in the victory.

Meyers went 3-for-4, Michael Gwiazdon had two hits, and both drove in a pair for the Terrors.

Appleton West will play at Fond du Lac on Tuesday.
