KAUKAUNA – Bron Schaefer knocked in Kyle Kress with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as Kaukauna downed Appleton East 3-2 in a Fox Valley Association baseball game Tuesday at Kaukauna High School.
Appleton East’s Rylan Winkler and Kaukauna’s Zander Leick were locked in a pitchers’ duel, with each only giving up one run through six innings.
Jackson Bines-Sabrowsky drilled a solo homer with two outs in the top of the eighth to give Appleton East a 2-1 lead only to see Kaukauna rally and tie the game thanks to a two-our error and a sacrifice fly on a bases-loaded pop out.
After Kaukauna sent East down in order in the ninth, Kaukauna (13-11, 9-8 FVA) was able to pull out the extra-inning win.
Appleton East (14-8, 9-7 FVA) was held to three hits in the loss.
The Patriots will host Appleton North on Thursday before finishing its FVA and regular-season schedule at home against Appleton West on Friday.
