Appleton Doubledays Legion baseball downs Neenah in summer season opener

NEENAH – The Appleton Doubledays Legion baseball team opened its 2025 campaign with a 5-1 win over Neenah on Thursday.

Jacob Bickel threw four hitless innings with six strikeouts and five walks to earn the win, and Matt Bixler tossed three shutout frames to end it for Appleton.

Lincoln Thede had an RBI single in the first inning, which was followed by two more runs scoring on a pair of Neenah errors as Appleton took a 3-0 lead.

Rylan Winkler had an RBI single in the second inning and knocked in another run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth to provide the Doubledays with their other two runs.

The Doubledays return to action Monday at Oshkosh.
