OSHKOSH – Appleton Post 38 pitcher Logan Gross coaxed a pop up with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to save a 10-9 win over Oshkosh in an American Legion baseball game Friday night at E.J. Schneider Field.
Appleton (2-2) led throughout, scoring twice in the second inning when Charlie Blevins reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch, and Jacob Quella delivered a sacrifice fly to plate Mason Peterson, who had singled.
Post 38 tacked on runs in each of the next three innings and two needed ones in the top of the seventh thanks to an Oshkosh error.
Oshkosh put together a rally in its final at-bat, scoring three times before Gross got the final out to end it.
Quella finished 3-for-3 with four RBI, and Peterson had two hits and scored twice in the win for Appleton.
Appleton will travel to New Richmond for a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
