Appleton Doubledays hold off Oshkosh at Class AAA Legion baseball regional

OSHKOSH – The Appleton Doubledays Legion baseball team won its Class AAA regional opener, holding off Oshkosh Post 70 3-2 on Wednesday at E.J. Schneider Field.

Appleton scored all three of its runs in the first two innings.

Cade Prestigiacomo had an RBI single in the top of the first inning for the Doubledays, and after Oshkosh tied the game in the bottom of the frame, Dan Dieck and Ethan Winkler each had RBI singles in the second to put Appleton up 3-1.

That score held until the seventh as Appleton starter Rylan Winkler went five strong innings.

Jack Schlueter shut down Oshkosh in the sixth before giving up an RBI single to Shaun Gavin in the bottom of the seventh. Schlueter struck out the next batter to end the threat and save the win for Winkler.

Ethan Winkler and Dawsen Burington each had two hits for the Doubledays.

Appleton (13-3) will take on Fond du Lac in a winners’ bracket game Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The winner moves into the championship round.
