Kaukauna rallies to eliminate Appleton Post 38 from Class AAA Legion baseball regional

KIMBERLY – The Kaukauna Angels fought back from a two-run deficit to defeat Appleton Post 38 in walk-off fashion 6-5 in a Class AAA regional elimination game Thursday at Sunset Park.

The game started on Wednesday and Appleton led 5-1 in the fifth inning before the game was suspended due to storms.

Kaukauna scored twice in the sixth inning to tie the game and won it in the seventh. Drew Luckow walked with two outs, stole second and third, and scored on a wild pitch to win the game.

Appleton scored twice in the opening inning as Reed Flick led off with a double and scored on a single by Levi Watts. Watts later scored on a single by Kellen Gilbert.

Post 38 added a run in the third on a sacrifice fly by Gus Rieckman. After Kaukauna scored a run in the bottom of the third, Appleton scored two more in the third as Flick and Watts both scored on wild pitches.

That would be it for Appleton, which ends its season with a 10-13 record.

Kaukauna was eliminated later Thursday night, losing to Manitowoc 11-4. Manitowoc will play Kimberly in the championship round at 5 p.m. If Manitowoc wins that game, the teams would play again for the regional title and a berth in next week’s state tournament in Stevens Point.
