Appleton Doubledays top Stevens Point in Class AAA state Legion baseball opener

STEVENS POINT – A five-run third inning gave the Appleton Doubledays the early lead and they were able to hang on for a 7-4 win over the Stevens Point Post 6 Sixers in a first-round game at the 2025 Class AAA Wisconsin State American Legion Baseball Tournament at Bukolt Park on Tuesday night.

After the Sixers scored twice in the top of the first, Appleton tied the game with a pair of runs. A.J. Thompson and Dan Dieck started the inning with singles and both came around to score on an RBI fielder’s choice by T.J. Parker and a sacrifice fly from Brandon Tobak.

In the third, the Doubledays got their offense rolling.

Dawsen Burington had a leadoff walk, and back-to-back doubles by Cade Prestigiacomo and Lincoln Thede led to two runs and a 4-2 lead for the Doubledays.

Appleton poured it on, scoring three more times thanks to on of Stevens Point’s four errors, an RBI double by Parker and a run-scoring single from Tobak, pushing its lead to 7-2.

The five-run cushion held until the seventh with Stevens Point scratched across two runs before Matt Bixler was able to finish off the victory.

Rylan Winkler earned the win, going four innings with two runs allowed.

The Doubledays (16-3) will take on Middleton (18-4) in a winners’ bracket game at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday as the double-elimination tournament continues. The game will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com.
