Middleton eliminates Appleton Doubledays from Class AAA State Legion Baseball Tournament

STEVENS POINT – Middleton scored five times in the top of the first inning and went on to defeat the Appleton Doubledays 11-1 in a semifinal at the Class AAA Wisconsin State American Legion Baseball Tournament on Saturday at Bukolt Park.

Middleton (22-5) went on to rout De Pere 14-2 in the championship game to claim the state title. De Pere and Appleton Doubledays will move on to the Great Lakes Legion Baseball Regional in Carol Stream, Ill, which will be held Aug. 6-10, with a berth in the American Legion Baseball World Series in Shelby, N.C., the following week on the line. Middleton declined its berth, allowing the Doubledays to move on.

Koeplin Look knocked in a pair of runs with a triple, and Feinberg and Joey Passaglia added RBI singles to give Middleton a quick 5-0 lead and Appleton (18-5) never recovered.

The Doubledays plated their only run in the second on an RBI single by A.J. Thompson, but only had one hit over the last four innings and never mounted a rally.

Both of Appleton’s losses in the double-elimination tournament were to Middleton.
