Appleton East grabs two top-40 finishes at Smiley Cross Country Invitational

WAUSAU – The Appleton East boys and girls each had a top-40 finisher in the Division 1 races at the annual Smiley Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Wausau East High School.

Rosemarie Butler finished 14^th in the Division 1 girls race in 20:02.5, which was won by Pulaski’s Maggie Gerth in 18:54.5.

East’s top boy was Louie Mandich, who took 33^rd in 17:08.5, as the race was won by Stevens Point’s Cooper Erickson in 15:31.

Appleton East placed eighth in the Division 1 Large School boys team standings, while the girls finished 10^th.

Evie Eidemiller took 58^th (21:28.8) and Olive Crownhart was 70^th (21:53.2) as well for the East girls.

Auden Winkel finished 88^th (18:41.2), Alex Beck 93^rd (18:45.1) and Graham Campbell 94^th (18:46.5) for the East boys.
