Touchdown on final play lifts Appleton North football past Kaukauna

APPLETON – Grant Hardy scored from 4 yards out on the game’s final play to lift the Appleton North football team to a come-from-behind 20-18 win over Kaukauna in a Fox Valley Association game Friday night Appleton North High School.

Kaukauna running back Aiden Reardon had an 8-yard touchdown run with 1:32 to go in the fourth quarter, giving the Ghosts an 18-14 lead in the back-and-forth affair.

Appleton North proceeded to drive the length of the field in 90 seconds with Hardy running in from the four as time expired, giving the Lightning the homecoming win.

Kavanaugh Weyenberg kicked two field goals in the first quarter for Kaukauna, which maintained that 6-0 lead through halftime.

Hardy, who finished with 213 yards passing, hit Gabe Meitner for a 53-yard touchdown just 24 seconds into the third quarter and D.J. Wilson added a 7-yard TD run as North bolted to a 14-6 lead following a nearly two-hour lightning delay.

Reardon, who had 92 yards rushing, scored from the 4 with 4:03 to go in the third, and added his second TD late in the fourth to regain the lead for the Ghosts at 18-14.

Wilson had 94 yards rushing for North, which improves to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the Fox Valley Association. Kaukauna falls to 3-4 and 3-2 in the FVA.

Appleton North plays at Appleton East next Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m.
