Late field goal pushes Luxemburg-Casco past Fox Valley Lutheran football in WIAA Division 3 Level 1 playoff

LUXEMBURG – Luxemburg-Casco overcame a 14-point halftime deficit and kicked a field goal with 5 seconds to go to defeat Fox Valley Lutheran 38-36 in a WIAA Division 3 Level 1 football playoff game Friday night at Luxemburg-Casco High School.

Two long touchdowns in the second quarter – a 90-yard pass from Gabe Heiges to Jacoby Dobberstein and a 94-yard run – gave Fox Valley Lutheran a 14-0 lead.

Luxemburg-Casco scored just before halftime and had a pair of touchdown runs in the third quarter to open up a 21-14 lead.

The Foxes quickly responded with a 10-yard TD run from Heiges to tie the game again only to see Luxemburg-Casco scored two more rushing touchdowns to begin the fourth.

Again Fox Valley Lutheran regained the lead as Heiges ran in from the 1 and the Foxes converted a two-point conversion to take a 36-35 lead.

Luxemburg-Casco (9-1) was able to drive down inside the 10 in the closing seconds and kicked a 23-yard field goal to win and advance to a Level 2 game at Plymouth on Oct. 31.

Heiges threw for 250 yards, 182 on six passes to Dobberstein, while Kapande finished with 141 rushing yards for the Foxes (5-5).

Braden Heiges had 11 tackles on defense for the Foxes.
