FVL’s Fischer, Dobberstein qualify for WIAA State Cross Country Meet

WAUPACA – Fox Valley Lutheran’s Claire Fischer and Mason Dobberstein will be running at the state meet after high finishes at a WIAA Division 2 cross country sectional meet Friday at Waupaca High School.

The top two teams and top five individuals not on the qualifying teams move on to the 2025 WIAA State Cross Country Championships at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids on Nov. 1.

Fischer finished fifth in the girls race in 19:59.1 to secure the second of the five individual qualifying spots, while Dobberstein grabbed the final boys individual slot with a 10th-place finish in 17:20.4.

Green Bay Notre Dame won both team titles, with the Luxemburg-Casco boys and Winneconne girls placing second to move on to the state meet as a team.

The Fox Valley Lutheran girls placed third and boys were fourth, while the Xavier girls took fifth and the boys finished sixth among the 16 teams at the sectional.

Winneconne’s Grant Wenzelow won the boys 5-kilometer race in 15:54.3 and the Wolves’ Quinn LeRoy was the girls sectional champion, running in 19:35.6.

In addition to Fischer, Anna Feuerstahler took 11th (20:39.6) and Rowen Volhard was 17th (21:12.9) for the FVL girls.

Xavier’s top girls runners were Nora Erickson, who finished 16th (21:11.0) and Noelle Nevins, who was 22nd (21:36.5).

Xavier’s Elijah Gottschalk finished 11th (17:27.2) and Jordan Rosembaum was 16th (17:36.5), while FVL’s Zachary Muenster placed 12th (17:29.0).

The Division 2 boys race will be at 12:35 p.m. and the D-2 girls race will be at 2:25 p.m. at the state meet next Saturday.
