Oostburg outlasts Appleton East girls basketball in season opener

OOSTBURG – Defending WIAA Division 3 state champion Oostburg pulled away in the second half to defeat Appleton East 57-49 in a nonconference game to open the 2025-26 season on Tuesday night at Oostburg High School.

Oostburg led 29-27 at halftime and was able to hold on, finishing with 11 made free throws while Appleton East never attempted a shot at the line.

Emilia MontMarquette scored 21 points to lead Appleton East, which is coming off a run to the state tournament last year as well. Ella Sweeney and Jenna Ott each added eight points for the Patriots.

Appleton East will play its home opener Thursday against Bay Port. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
