Appleton East girls basketball wins FVA showdown at Neenah

NEENAH – Ella Sweeney hit seven 3-pointers and scored a season-high 32 points to lead the Appleton East girls basketball team to an 81-71 win over Neenah in a battle of Fox Valley Association undefeated teams on Tuesday at Neenah High School.

Sweeney had six 3-pointers and 22 points in the first half as the Patriots opened up a 44-22 lead and were not threatened.

Appleton East is the last undefeated team in the Fox Valley Association, improving to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in conference play. Neenah drops to 8-2 and 5-1 in the FVA.

East finished with 14 3-pointers in all in the victory as eight different Patriots scored and seven made at least one 3-pointer.

Farrah Danforth led Neenah with 22 points.

Appleton East will take some time off before hosting Laconia for a nonconference game on Jan. 5.
