Kimberly holds off Appleton East girls basketball in battle of FVA leaders

KIMBERLY – Kimberly held off a late push to knock off Appleton East 51-46 in a Fox Valley Association girls basketball game Tuesday night at Kimberly High School, ending the Patriots’ 15-game winning streak.
Kimberly led 24-16 at halftime and pushed the lead to 12 early in the second half before Appleton East came as close as three points late, but the Papermakers were able to hold on.
Ava Van Vonderen scored 15 points and Claudia Asman had four 3-pointers to account for her 12 points for Kimberly (13-4, 11-1 FVA), which earns the season split with the Patriots (15-2, 11-1 FVA) and pulls into a tie with East for first place in the conference.
Aubrie Erickson was the lone Patriot to hit double figures, scoring 11 points.
Appleton East hosts Hortonville (11-7, 9-4 FVA) on Friday.
