FVA-leader Kimberly pulls past Appleton North girls basketball

APPLETON – Appleton North was held to 12 points in the first half and dropped a 49-33 decision to Fox Valley Association leader Kimberly in girls basketball action Tuesday at Appleton North High School.

The Papermakers led 23-12 at halftime and were able to finish off the double-digit win, improving to 16-4 overall and 14-1 in the FVA, which is 1½ games ahead of Appleton East with just a handful of games remaining.

Appleton North shot just 26 percent from the field (12 of 46) and were 4-for-22 from 3-point range in the loss as it falls to 12-6 overall and 8-6 in the FVA.

Avery Werfal scored 10 points, and Tay Maass had eight points and 12 rebounds for the Lightning.

Ava Van Vonderen topped Kimberly with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Appleton North plays at Hortonville on Friday as part of a boys-girls doubleheader. The boys game begins at 6 p.m. with the girls contest to follow at approximately 7:45 p.m.
