Xavier boys wrestling earns two state berths at WIAA Division 2 Two Rivers Sectional

TWO RIVERS – A pair of Xavier boys wrestlers are heading to state after winning their respective weight classes at a WIAA Division 2 individual sectional Saturday at Two Rivers High School.
The top six teams in the individual sectional qualify for the team sectional and will compete for a spot in the 2026 WIAA State Team Wrestling Tournament at the La Crosse Center on March 6-7, while the top two finishers in each weight class at the sectional qualified for the 2026 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Xavier junior Cristian Rodriguez Salgado (36-1) won the 106-pound title with a pair of pins and a 16-8 major decision over Cullen Zellner of Denmark in the championship match.
Also moving on to state for the Hawks is senior John Faulkner (39-3), who won the 150-pound championship match with a hard-fought 6-5 victory over Trey Zemke of Winneconne.
Samuel Anderson added a third-place finish at 285 pounds for Xavier, which tied for seventh in the team standings with 97.5 points.
Denmark (219 points), Chilton/Hilbert (180), Winneconne (153.5), Kiel (119), Two Rivers (106) and North Fond du Lac/St. Mary’s Springs (98.5) earned spots in a Division 2 team sectional at Wrightstown on Feb. 21. The teams will compete for a spot at the State Team Tournament.
Fox Valley Lutheran’s season came to an end as it had no top-two finishes. Austin Kufner placed third at 165 pounds for the Foxes.
