Xavier softball opens season with comeback win over Winneconne

WINNECONNE – The Xavier softball team overcame a three-run deficit to defeat Winneconne 5-3 in the Bay Conference and season opener for both teams on Tuesday at Winneconne High School.
The Wolves led 3-0 after a three-run second inning before Xavier tied the game with a three-run fifth, and won it with two runs in the top of the seventh.
Elsa Dvoracek had a two-run double and scored on an error to tie the game in the fifth for the Hawks.
In the seventh, Samia Guerrerro had an RBI double and scored on a double by Elianna Riehl to give Xavier a two-run lead.
Morgan Staszak finished off the complete game win for the Hawks, retiring the final batter with her 10th strikeout.
Xavier is scheduled to play at Shawano on Thursday, weather permitting.
