Appleton North softball starts season with wins over West De Pere, Appleton West

The Appleton North softball team opened its season with a pair of wins, defeating West De Pere 12-6 on Monday and Appleton West 18-0 on Tuesday.

The Lightning overcame an early deficit to outscore West De Pere 9-2 over the final four innings to pull away in Monday’s game at Westwood Elementary School.

Charlotte Radtke earned the pitching win for the Lightning, striking out seven over five innings, and added three hits and an RBI.

North finished with 10 hits, including three each from Brianna Gehrman and Alyssa Wald.

In Tuesday’s win over Appleton West at King Field on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus, the Lightning won via the 15-run rule in just three innings, scoring 15 runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Drew Brown had three hits and four RBI, Wald drove in three, and Valarie Baranczyk and Radtke each had two hits for the Lightning.

West (0-2, 0-1 FVA) was held to one hit.

Both teams are back in action Thursday with FVA games. North will play at Oshkosh West and the Terrors host Neenah.
