APPLETON – Xavier scored four times in the final two innings and held off a late rally to top New London 8-7 in a Bay Conference baseball game Tuesday at Don Hawkins Field.
The game was moved from New London to Appleton due to wet field conditions, with the Bulldogs playing as the home team.
Matt Potter had an RBI double, Kyler Bleck singled and Potter scored on an error on the play, and Gavin Wiese doubled home Bleck to put Xavier up 7-4 in the sixth inning.
A sacrifice fly by Potter pushed the Hawks’ lead to 8-4 before New London (0-3, 0-2 Bay Conference) rallied. The Bulldogs closed to within one before a groundout ended the game.
Quinn Comerford had three hits, and Wiese, Frankie Cavaiani and Bleck all had two hits for Xavier, which is now 5-5 overall and 4-0 in the Bay Conference.
The two teams will play again Thursday at Don Hawkins Field beginning at 6:30 p.m.
