Fox Valley Lutheran softball loses to Mosinee, rallies for win over Neenah at Ashwaubenon Invite

ASHWAUBENON – The Fox Valley Lutheran softball team split a pair of games at the Ashwaubenon Invitational on Saturday at Pioneer Park.

The Foxes lost a pitchers’ duel to Mosinee 1-0 before responding with a 6-4 win over Neenah.

Fox Valley Lutheran’s Madison Babcock and Mosinee’s Ava Busse showed their stuff from the pitching circle in the opening game.

Mosinee scratched out the game’s only run in the third inning when Taelyn Jirschele led off with a walk, stole second and third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Addyson Henrich.

Busse had eight strikeouts and Babcock finished with nine, as each allowed only four hits.

The Foxes (15-2) scored twice in the seventh inning to defeat Neenah and salvage a split in the tournament.

Babcock walked, stole second, moved up to third on a wild pitch and scored on a bunt single by Kinley Peterson to give the Foxes the lead in the final inning. Peterson later scored on an error to up their lead to two.

Babcock finished off the win as she finished with seven strikeouts and just one hit and run allowed in 4 1/3 innings of relief.

Fox Valley Lutheran hosts Kimberly for a nonconference game on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
