Appleton West ties for third to pick up sectional berth at WIAA Division 1 boys golf regional

NEENAH – Appleton West advanced to next week’s sectional after a third-place finish at a WIAA Division 1 boys golf regional on Tuesday at Winagamie Golf Course.

The top four teams and the top four individuals not on those teams qualify for a Division 1 sectional at Butte des Morts Country Club in Appleton on Monday.

Kimberly picked up the regional team title with a sizzling 299 behind individual regional champion Tyler Steeno’s even-par 72. Neenah was second with a 314, and Appleton West and Hortonville tied for third with 316s to also advance to the sectional.

Graham Goldschmidt tied for fourth with a 74, Austin Arizola shot a 79, Mason Peterson finished with an 80, Gavin Goodyear had an 83, and Keaton Buss had a 91 for Appleton West.

Among those picking up individual sectional berths were Fox Valley Lutheran senior Kaden Kusserow and Appleton North senior Jonathan Huenink.

Kusserow tied for sixth with a 75, Huenink tied Jonah Roehrig of Kaukauna with a 78, and Kaukauna’s Sam Hussin shot an 80 to earn the four individual sectional berths.

Appleton North placed sixth with a 332, Appleton East was seventh with a 335, and Fox Valley Lutheran took eighth with a 353.

Brody Muller had an 81, Mason Rehberg shot 83 and Max Vanden Langenberg had an 84 for East.

Gordy Cole shot 82 and William Tweedy fired an 84 for Appleton North.

After Kusserow, Fox Valley Lutheran’s next-best finisher was Quinn Murphy with an 86.
