Xavier, Appleton North’s Huenink compete at WIAA State Boys Golf Championships

MADISON – Xavier finished fifth in the Division 2 team standings and Appleton North’s Jonathan Huenink took 33rd in the Division 1 competition at the 2026 WIAA State Boys Golf Championships, which was held Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge Golf Club.
Winneconne took the Division 2 team title with a two-day score of 620 (316-304). The Wolves tied Madison Edgewood but won via the fifth-player score tiebreaker. Xavier was fifth among the eight teams with a score of 634 (319-315).
Xavier sophomore Derek Watry shot a 149 (76-73) to finish in a tie for fourth with Winneconne’s Austin Dobbe. Seymour’s Vince Sigl won the Division 2 individual state title for the second year in a row with a 139. Sigl shot a 71, which was tied for first heading into Tuesday, when he wrapped up the tournament with a 4-under par 68 to win by four over Altoona’s Elliot Skinner.
Phillip Schmidtke had a 158 (82-76) to tie for 23rd, William Baumann tied for 26th with a 160 (78-82), Jack Schmidtke shot 167 (83-84) to tie for 37th, and Grant Neumann had a 170 (86-84) to tie for 43rd for Xavier.
In the Division 1 portion of the tournament, Huenink, a senior, shot rounds of 77 and 76 to finish with a two-day total of 153 and ended up in a six-way tie for 33rd among the 102 competitors.
Edgerton’s Owen Wagie won the D-1 individual title with an 8-under par 136 (67-69), one stroke better than Milton’s Kade Wieland.
Middleton won the Division 1 team title with a two-day score of 578 (279-299), 14 shots in front of Kimberly.
Kohler won the Division 3 title with a 623 (320-303), eight strokes in front of Prentice. Kohler sophomore David Van Dixhorn won the individual title with a 145 (75-70), two shots better than Prentice senior Eliah Harding.
