Appleton Post 38 Legion baseball walks off Appleton Doubledays

APPLETON – Appleton Post 38 scored four times in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk-off the Appleton Doubledays 9-8 in American Legion baseball action Tuesday night at Don Hawkins Field.
The Doubledays (3-4) led 8-3 after scoring on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Oscar Crownhart in the top of the sixth.
William Malnar delivered an RBI double and scored on a single by Nicholas Downs in the bottom of the sixth to bring Post 38 (9-3) within three.
After a shutout top of the seventh, Post 38 plated four runs on just one hit, taking advantage of two walks and three hit batters, two coming with the bases loaded. Ethan Abbott was the third batter hit by a pitch, forcing in Malnar with the winning run
Evan Salzman picked up the pitching win for Post 38, allowing two runs and one hit over four innings of relief.
Post 38 will play at Kimberly on Wednesday, while the Doubledays will host De Pere at Koslo Park in Menasha.
