Appleton Doubledays defeat Fond du Lac twice to win Class AAA Legion baseball regional, advance to state

OSHKOSH – The Appleton Doubledays baseball team is heading to state after winning all three games at the Class AAA regional at E.J. Schneider Field, which was held Wednesday through Saturday.
Coming off a 3-2 win on Wednesday, the Doubledays defeated Fond du Lac 9-0 on Friday and again on Saturday 7-2 in the championship game.
The Doubledays (15-3) will play host Stevens Point (9-15) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bukolt Park on the first day of the double-elimination tournament that runs through Saturday, Aug. 2.
Cade Prestigiacomo threw 6 2/3 innings of shutout baseball and James Heimerl got the final out to blank Fond du Lac on Friday.
Prestigiacomo had eight strikeouts and four walks on the mound, and had two hits and three RBI in the victory.
Dawsen Burington, who had two hits and scored twice in Friday’s game, continued his hot hitting in Saturday’s championship game, going 3-for-4 and drove in a run.
Appleton built a 7-0 before Fond du Lac broke the 15-inning scoreless streak with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Ethan Winkler scored three times and Prestigiacomo drove in two runs in the win.
