Appleton Doubledays Legion baseball slams Hartland in first game at Wisconsin Rapids Tournament

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Appleton Doubledays Legion baseball team used an eight-run first inning to propel them to an 11-3 win over Hartland in the opening game of the Wisconsin Rapids Tournament on Friday at Lincoln High School.
Ethan Winkler led off the game with a triple and he scored on a single by Dawsen Burrington to begin the explosion in the opening inning for the Doubledays, who sent 13 batters the plate.
Brandon Tobak and Mason Winkler had RBI singles, and Ethan Winkler drove in two with a single in his second at-bat in the inning as the Doubledays cruised out to an 8-0 lead.
Rylan Winkler earned the pitching win for Appleton (3-0), allowing just three hits and two unearned runs over four innings, with T.J. Parker picking up the save with three innings of one-hit baseball.
Ethan Winkler finished 3-for-5 with three urns scored, and Tobak and Mason Winkler each added two hits for Appleton.
The Doubledays play Stevens Point at 1 p.m. and Marshfield at 6 p.m. as the three-day tournament continues Saturday.
