Appleton Doubledays Legion baseball split two at Wisconsin Rapids Tournament

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Appleton Doubledays Legion baseball team split a pair of games at the second day of the Wisconsin Rapids Tournament on Saturday at Lincoln High School.

Appleton doubled up Stevens Point 8-4 before suffering its first loss of the summer season, losing to Marshfield 3-1 in nine innings.

Dan Dieck knocked in two with a single and Brandon Tobak added an RBI hit in the first inning to give Appleton a quick 3-0 lead against Stevens Point.

T.J. Parker had an RBI single in the second to make it 4-0 before Stevens Point rallied to tie the game.

Appleton pitchers Matt Bixler and Brady Kern shut out the Sixers the rest of the way and the Doubledays’ bats were able to give them the victory.

An error and a two-run single by Dawsen Burrington in the fifth put Appleton up 7-4, and Mason Winkler singled home Rylan Winkler in the sixth to finish off the scoring.

Against Marshfield, both teams exchanged runs in the third inning and the score held until the ninth, when the Blue Devils scratched out a pair of runs. Three consecutive hit batters led to a run and Mason Anderson singled home another to put Marshfield in front.

Dieck had two hits to finish the two games with four in eight at-bats for the Doubledays (4-1).

Appleton will play Wisconsin Rapids at 1:30 p.m. Sunday to finish play at the three-day tournament.
