Appleton East baseball rallies to defeat Notre Dame

APPLETON – Ethan Winkler had a go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift the Appleton East baseball team to a 10-8 nonconference win over Green Bay Notre Dame on Monday at East High School.
Notre Dame led 4-1 before the Patriots (11-5) put up six runs in the second inning with the rally ending on an RBI single by Daniel Dieck.
Notre Dame (12-7) pulled back ahead with a four-run fourth, but Appleton East responded again, scoring three times in the fifth.
Jackson Bines-Sabrowsky added a sacrifice fly following Winkler’s big double to pad the Patriots’ lead to two.
Brandon Tobak entered on the mound and tossed two scoreless innings to earn the save for reliever Blake Dietzen, who grabbed the win.
Appleton East will play a Fox Valley Association game at first-place Kimberly on Tuesday.
