Appleton East baseball smacks Cedarburg in WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal

APPLETON – Appleton East had four different players collect two hits and at least two RBI as the No. 5 seed Patriots routed No. 12 Cedarburg 14-2 in a WIAA Division 1 baseball regional semifinal Tuesday at Appleton East High School.
After falling behind 1-0 in the opening inning, East (17-8) scored twice in the second inning on a two-run homer by Rylan Winkler.
The lead was short-lived as Cedarburg (10-17) struck for another run to tie the game in the third before the Patriots broke it open.
East scored eight times in the third inning, tacked on four more in the fourth and finished off the win in five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Cade Prestigiacomo and Rylan Winkler each had two hits and three RBI, and Ethan Winkler and Alex Thompson each drove in two runs on two hits apiece in the win for the Patriots.
Daniel Dieck also had a pair of hits for East, which finished with 12 in all.
Rylan Winkler also picked up the pitching win, striking out four over four innings of work.
Appleton East will play the winner of Wednesday’s game between No. 4 Manitowoc and No. 13 Oshkosh North in a D-1 regional final on Thursday.
