Appleton East baseball squeezes out extra-inning win over Kaukauna

APPLETON – Cade Prestigiacomo bunted home Nick Verbeten with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Appleton East a 10-9 win over Kaukauna in Fox Valley Association baseball action Monday at East High School.

Mason Winkler singled home Daniel Dieck with two outs in the bottom of the seventh for the Patriots to tie the game at 8-8 and send it into extra innings.

After Kaukauna scored a run in the top of the ninth, East rallied, tying the game when Alex Thompson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Prestigiacomo laid down a sacrifice squeeze bunt to plate the game-winner as the Patriots improve to 13-7 overall and 8-6 in the FVA.

Rylan Winkler had three hits for Appleton East, which had 15 in all.

The Patriots host Appleton West on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
