Appleton East girls basketball dominates Appleton West in FVA finale

APPLETON – The Appleton East girls basketball team started the game on a 10-0 run and cruised to a 66-32 win over Appleton West in the Fox Valley Association finale for both teams on Friday night at East High School.
The Patriots rolled out to a 42-16 lead by halftime and finished off the win as they end up in second place in the FVA with a 16-2 record, one game behind Kimberly.
Ella Sweeney hit four of East’s 11 3-pointers and scored a team-high 18 points. Emilia MontMarquette added 10 points and Jenna Ott had nine in the victory.
Allysen Buss knocked down five 3s and scored a game-high 19 points for Appleton West, which finishes the regular season with a 1-23 record and an 0-18 mark in the FVA.
Appleton East wraps up its regular season with a nonconference game at Beaver Dam on Saturday.
Appleton West will play a WIAA Division 1 regional quarterfinal at Milwaukee Riverside on Tuesday, with the winner moving on to a regional semifinal at Appleton East on Friday, Feb. 27.
