Appleton East girls basketball tops Kimberly, moves into first-place tie in FVA

APPLETON – The Appleton East girls basketball team avenged a loss in last year’s state tournament with a 50-43 win over Kimberly on Friday night at East High School, moving into a tie for first place in the Fox Valley Association.

A smothering defensive performance by East held the Papermakers (4-2, 3-1 FVA) to just 13 made baskets.

The Patriots (4-1, 3-0 FVA) led 26-18 at halftime and extended their lead to as much as 19 in the second half before a comeback attempt from Kimberly fell short.

Ella Sweeney scored 14 points, Ambria Fischer added 12 and Aubrie Erickson had 10 for Appleton East, which is now tied for Neenah atop the FVA.

Haylie Dulas led all scorers with 25 points for Kimberly.

Appleton East is back in action Tuesday at Hortonville.
