HORTONVILLE – Hortonville scored four runs in the first two innings and held off Appleton North to win 5-3 in a Fox Valley Association baseball game Thursday at Commercial Club Park.

The Polar Bears scored three times in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead and that held until Appleton North managed to make it close with a three-run fourth.

Brennan Otto had a two-run single and Thomas Carew had a sacrifice fly to bring the Lightning (7-3, 4-2 FVA) to within a run.

Appleton North had the tying run on base in the top of the seventh but could not get the runners in as Griffin Jens saved the win for Hortonville starter Taiven Gass.

Kameron Chronis had a pair of hits for Hortonville (8-3, 4-2 FVA), who pulls into a four-way tie for second place in the conference with Appleton North, Appleton East and Kaukauna. Kimberly sits along on top of the FVA standings at 5-1.

Appleton North’s next game is Tuesday at home against Appleton West.
