Appleton North baseball grabs walk-off win over Appleton West

APPLETON – Levi Watts walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Appleton North baseball team another walk-off win as it defeated Appleton West 9-8 in a Fox Valley Association matchup Tuesday at North High School.

North broke open a 4-4 tie with a four-run sixth inning keyed by RBI singles from Brennan Otto and Jackson Skorr.

The Terrors (1-7, 1-6 FVA) rallied with a four-spot of their own in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Michael Gwiazdon, a run-scoring double from Charlie Blevins, a wild pitch and a passed ball to tie the game back up at 8-8.

After North pitcher Teegan Karpinske sent down West in order in the top of the eighth, a walk, a hit batter, an error and another walk led to the Lightning scoring the winning run and improving to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the FVA.

Otto finished with two hits, Watts had three RBI and Nathan Ramus had two runs scored and two driven in for the Lightning.

Cameron St. John, Loren Georger, Blevins, Mason Peterson and Quinn Mueller each had two hits in the loss for Appleton West.

Both teams are back in action Thursday as West hosts Fond du Lac and North travels to Neenah.
