Appleton North boys win team title, Appleton West girls grab two top-10 finishes at Bay Port Cross Country Invite

HOWARD – Appleton North had four top-10 finishes to win the boys team title at the Mike Jameson Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Meadowbrook Park. Bay Port was the host school.
North finished with 40 points, with Bay Port second with 59, to claim the boys team championship at the seven-team meet. Appleton West was sixth with 136 points.
Aiden Sanders finished fourth in 18:04.6, Charles Williams was fifth in 18:26.7, Jeremy Clark took eighth in 18:37.7 and Nolan Moscinski was 10th in 18:49.5 to lead the Lightning to the victory.
Roan Hesselman finished seventh to lead the Appleton West boys, running in 18:35.3.
Fond du Lac’s Jonny Golke won the boys race in 16:59.9, more than one-half minute in front of runner-up Dominic Natzke of West De Pere.
Bay Port took the girls team title with 33 points, with Fond du Lac second with 55 and Appleton North third with 63.
Bay Port’s Elly Rau (20:16.9) and Liana Campbell (21:22.9) were the top to finishers in the girls race.
Appleton West had only four runners participate and did not figure in the team standings, but had a pair of top-10 finishes as Caroline Breed was eighth in 21:54.5 and Marlo Seefeldt took 10th in 22:10.4.
Audra Roe placed third (21:25.9), Evelyn Mendolla was 13th (22:49.0) and Maria Ganser 14th (22:52.5) for the Appleton North girls.
Appleton West’s next meet is Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Mishicot Invitational. Appleton North will next compete at the Janesville Craig Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27.
