KENOSHA – Appleton North’s Brody Olp returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, but Kenosha Bradford responded with three unanswered touchdowns and went on to defeat the Lightning 27-17 in a nonconference football game Thursday night at Bradford High School.
Olp took the opening kick 85 yards for a score to give the Lightning a quick lead, but they couldn’t muster much offense the rest of the first half and saw Bradford pull away.
Gahari Barnes ran for two touchdowns and scored on a 32-yard reception as well as the Red Devils (2-0) took a 20-7 lead into halftime.
North (1-1) managed to get back in it in the third on a 38-yard field goal by Khalier Chandavong and a 25-yard TD pass from Grant Hardy to Alijah Valeri, cutting the deficit to 20-17, but that would be it for the Lightning as they were shut out in the fourth.
An 83-yard pass play for a touchdown for Bradford late ended the Lightning’s hopes.
Appleton North was held to 150 total yards in the loss.
Appleton North will open its Fox Valley Association schedule at Fond du Lac on Thursday, Sept. 4.
