Appleton North girls basketball holds on for road win at Oshkosh North

OSHKOSH – The Appleton North girls basketball team built a 10-point halftime lead and held on to defeat Oshkosh North 69-60 in a Fox Valley Association game Saturday afternoon at Oshkosh North High School.

Avery Werfal scored 11 points in the first half to help the Lightning take a 24-14 lead at halftime.

Brinna Paulson hit four 3-pointers to spark a second-half run for Oshkosh North, but the Lightning was able to hold on as they made 18 of 23 free throws in the second half (21 of 26 overall).

Werfal made 10 of 13 free throws in the second half and ended up with a game-high 27 points for Appleton North, which is now 14-7 overall and 10-6 in the Fox Valley Association.

Brooke Schuh hit four 3-pointers and added 17 points for the Lightning.

Paulson had 20 points and Awut Alic added 17 for Oshkosh North (6-16, 3-14 FVA).

Appleton North will finish its regular season with games at Appleton East on Tuesday and at Fond du Lac on Thursday. The WIAA playoff pairings will be announced on Sunday.
