Appleton North girls finish second, boys fourth at FVA Cross Country Meet

KAUKAUNA – Appleton North sophomore Eva Busch finished less than one second out of first to earn runner-up honors in the girls race at the 2025 Fox Valley Association Cross Country Meet on Thursday at Countryside Golf Course.
Neenah freshman Sam Zilm finished the 5-kilometer race in 17:40.5, 7/10th of a second ahead of Busch to win the FVA individual title.
Neenah won the girls team title as well as five Rockets finished in the top-10. Appleton North was second, Appleton East seventh and Appleton West 10th.
Ava Helmbrecht added a fifth-place finish for the Lightning, running in 18:29.3, and two other North runners earned top-20 finishes as Sophia Scherwinski was 17th (19:27.1) and Amber Ziemer took 18th (19:41.9).
Marlo Seefeldt finished 43rd in 20:48.3 to lead Appleton West, and Appleton East’s top girls runner was Evie Eidemiller took 45h in 21:00.6.
Kimbelry won the boys team title with Neenah second, Appleton North fourth, Appleton East eighth and Appleton West 10th.
Neenah’s Zach Verhagen was the individual boys champion, running the 5K in 15:57.9, four seconds in front of Oshkosh West’s Carter Crowe.
Louie Mandich took 10th in 16:31.2 to give Appleton East a top-10 finisher.
Appleton North’s top six runners all finished between 18th and 26th place. Marek Danelski took 18th in 16:53.9, Spencer Gremban was 19th in 16:57.9 and Braden Waters was 20th in 17:00.1 to lead the Lightning.
Appleton West’s top runner was Kegan Phalin, who placed 27th in 17:19.1.
Appleton West will compete at a WIAA Division 1 sectional at Standing Rocks Park in Stevens Point, while Appleton North and Appleton East will be at a D-1 sectional at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Saturday, Oct. 25.
