Appleton North grabs two runner-up finishes at WIAA State Girls Swimming Championships

WAUKESHA – Appleton North had a pair of runner-up finishes and seven in the top 10 at the WIAA Division 1 Girls Swimming Championships on Saturday at Waukesha South High School.
Appleton North’s 200-yard medley relay team of Lauren Barnes, Maddie Loken, Elise Brazzale and Afton Scoresby placed second in 1:43.58, and Loken took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.93 to earn silver medals at the state meet.
Scoresby placed fourth in the 50 freestyle (23.58), Brazzale was sixth in the 100 butterfly (56.06), Scoresby took seventh in the 100 freestyle (51.94), and the 200 freestyle relay team of Loken, Sophia Golub, Brazzale and Scoresby placed sixth in 1:36.29 to also pick up top-10 finishes for the Lightning.
Brazzale took 11th in the 200 individual medley in 2:08.71 and Loken was 13th in 2:09.46, Golub placed 22nd in the 100 freestyle in 54.47 seconds, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Golub, Barnes, Aeryn Weber and Margo Maddaloni placed 22nd in 3:45.48 as well for Appleton North.
Appleton East/Hortonville/Kaukauna’s lone state representative, Sydney Josephson, finished 15th in the 50 freestyle in 24.44 seconds and 24th in the 100 butterfly in 59.49 seconds.
