Appleton North softball drops FVA games to Neenah, Appleton East

APPLETON – The Appleton North softball team lost both ends of a back-to-back on Thursday as it was shutout by Neenah 5-0 at home, then traveled to Appleton East and lost 8-5 in a pair of Fox Valley Association games.

In the first game against Neenah, the second-place team in the Fox Valley Association, Rockets hurler Kyliegh Mathe and North pitcher Charlotte Radtke matched zeroes through seven innings before Neenah erupted for five runs in the top of the eighth.

Radtke finished with 12 strikeouts and four walks in a stellar effort for the Lightning.

Mathe had 10 strikeouts, just one walk and gave up only two hits for Neenah (17-9, 14-4 Fox Valley Association).

Appleton East only had three hits, but were able to push across eight runs thanks to a pair of errors and five walks and defeated North 8-5.

Sarah Broeckert had a double and an RBI for the Patriots. Emma Jacobs went the distance in the circle, scattering seven hits.

Valerie Baranczyk, Lila Griffith and Claire Therkildsen each had two hits for the Lightning (10-13, 8-9 FVA).

Both teams will finish their regular-season schedules on Friday. Appleton North will resume a suspended game at Appleton West at 4:30 p.m., leading 3-0 in the second inning, while East will travel to Kaukauna.
