Appleton North softball slugs past Appleton West

APPLETON – The Appleton North softball team finished its regular season with a 15-1 rout of Appleton West on Friday at the Nienhaus Sports Complex.
The Lightning scored 10 runs in the first two innings to win going away and finish the regular season with a 11-13 overall record and a 9-9 mark in the Fox Valley Association.
Appleton North had 13 hits, three by Claire Therkildsen, and two each from Keira Hughes, Lila Griffith and Alyssa Wald. Griffith and Therkildsen both had three RBI in the win.
Sophia Wald picked up the pitching win, striking out eight in a complete-game effort for the Lightning.
Lillian Hanke drove in the only run for Appleton West (2-17, 1-16 FVA).
Appleton West will finish its regular season Monday at Fond du Lac. Both teams then open WIAA postseason play with Division 1 regional semifinals. West will play at Kimberly and North will travel to Hortonville.
