Appleton North track dominates at home WIAA Division 1 regional

APPLETON – The Appleton North girls dominated with 10 titles and 16 total sectional qualifiers at a WIAA Division 1 track & field regional at Appleton North High School on Tuesday.
The top four finishers in each event qualify for a Division 1 sectional at West De Pere on Friday. The top three in each event at the sectional moves on to the 2025 WIAA State Track & Field Championships on June 6-7 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Isabel Parrish won two individual events, and Ashley Parrish won two events and was part of two winning relay squads as well for the Lightning, who won the regional team title with 154 points.
Isabel Parrish won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.52 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 45.02, while Ashley Parrish took first in the 200 meters in 25.29 and the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 10 inches.
Appleton North’s 3,200 relay team of Eva Busch, Sophie Busch, Ava Helmbrecht and Elise Brazzale won in 9:45.77; the 400 team of Princess Tomori, Ashley Parrish, Jada Ellis and Emily Thompson was first in 49.47; and the 1,600 team of Ashley Parrish, Ellis, Sophie Busch and Helmbrecht won in 3:59.67.
Thompson won the 100 in 12.62, Nora Waddel took first in the pole vault (11-0) and Allison Schinke won the triple jump (35-2¼) as well for the Appleton North girls.
Also moving on to the West De Pere Sectional for the North girls were Ellis in the 100 (fourth, 12.90), Eva Busch in the 1,600 (second, 5:04.14), Brazzale in the 800 (third, 2:18.29), Sophia Scherwinski in the 3,200 (third, 11:23.45), and Waddell (third, 5-1) and Bella Tabbert (fourth, 5-0) in the high jump.
The Appleton North boys had 11 sectional qualifiers but no regional champs.
Earning runner-up finishes for the North boys were Teddy Koelling in the 400 (51.10), Bobby Salm in the 300 hurdles (41.42), and Logan Spalding in the 200 (22.93).
Others qualifying for sectionals for the North boys were Spencer Gremban in the 3,200 (third, 10:10.87), Aaden Gornec in the triple jump (third, 40-10½) and long jump (fourth, 20-9½), Gryphon Armon in the pole vault (fourth, 12-0), Simon Kairu in the triple jump (fourth, 40-5½), Jacob McGinn in the 800 (fourth, 2:02.48), the 3,200 relay team of Koeling, Jeremy Clark, Lukas Nahm and Jacob McGinn (third, 8:29.59), and the 800 relay team of D.J. Wilson, Evan Seidler, Lucas Scharenbroch, Ethan Thurston (third, 1:31.79).
The Appleton East boys had one regional champion as Collin Hanson won the triple jump with a leap of 44-1¼.
Also moving on to sectionals for the East boys were Abiatar Massingue in the 110 hurdles (third, 16.06), Brady Koplitz in the 300 hurdles (third, 42.14), the 1,600 relay team of Dane Owens, Preston Schefe, Brady Koplitz and Birk Kozlowicz (third, 3:31.64), the 3,200 relay team of Auden Winkel, Holden Poole, Louie Mandich, Liam Krainik (fourth, 8:30.74), Kozlowicz in the 400 (fourth, 51.74), and Maks Chevalier in the discus (fourth, 143-11).
The Appleton East girls and the Appleton West boys and girls did not have any sectional qualifiers.
