Appleton Post 38 Legion baseball picks up walk-off win over Antigo in 2025 opener

APPLETON – The Appleton Post 38 American Legion baseball team opened its 2025 summer season with a 4-3 eighth inning walk-off win over Antigo on Friday night at Don Hawkins Field.
A walk and a pair off errors loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth, and with one out, Quinn Mueller hit a grounder to shortstop and Antigo was unable to turn a double play, allowing Reed Flick to score with the winning run.
Antigo scored three times in the fifth to take a one-run lead, and down to its final at-bat in the bottom of the seventh, Post 38 was able to tie it.
Logan Gross reached on a one-out error and Owen Wick singled, moving Gross up to third. A throwing error by the Antigo catcher allowed Gross to score to tying run.
Kellen Gilbert picked up the pitching win, throwing three shut out innings in relief for Appleton.
Appleton will play at Escanaba, Mich., on Saturday at 2 p.m.
