Appleton West softball outlasts Appleton East to pick up first FVA win

APPLETON – The Appleton West softball team ended a 14-game losing streak and picked up its first Fox Valley Association win of the season, defeating crosstown rival Appleton East 9-6 on Thursday at East High School.
The game was called due to rain with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Appleton West had 10 hits, two each by Aubrey Detert, Ali Raddatz and Addison Edmunds. Raddatz doubled, homered and drove in four for the Terrors (2-14, 1-14 FVA).
Leading 7-5, Raddatz hit a home run to lead off the top of the sixth for the Terrors and Madison Buchinger had a sacrifice fly to plate Addison Edmunds to push the lead to 9-5.
Appleton East (4-16, 2-13 FVA) scored once in the bottom of the sixth on an error and had runners on second and third with two outs before the game was called.
Aubrie Erickson and Nina Kubiak each had two hits for the Patriots.
Both teams are back in action Friday, with Appleton East playing at Neenah and Appleton West hosting Appleton North.
