Fox Valley Lutheran football slams Shawano

APPLETON – Fox Valley Lutheran scored five first-half touchdowns to take control from the start and went on to a 48-16 rout of Shawano in the regular-season and Bay Conference football finale for both teams on Friday night at Fox Valley Lutheran High School.

Gabe Heiges had a rushing and a passing touchdown, Blessings Kapande had a pair of 2-yard scoring runs, and Ian Holmes returned a punt for a touchdown to push the Foxes out to a dominating 34-0 lead by halftime.

Kapande, who had a team-high 82 yards rushing, ripped off a 54-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter to give FVL a 41-0 lead and a running clock the rest of the way.

Shawano put up two scores late, and Weston Beyer added a 13-yard TD run for the Foxes.

Fox Valley Lutheran finishes the regular season with a 6-3 record and a 4-3 mark in the Bay Conference, which puts the Foxes in third place behind champion Winneconne and Seymour. Shawano ends up 1-8 and 1-6 in Bay Conference play.

Fox Valley Lutheran will make its 11th-straight WIAA playoff appearance, with a Division 3 Level 1 game next Friday, Oct. 24. The brackets will be announced Saturday morning.
