Fox Valley Lutheran grabs 13 state berths, Xavier two at WIAA Division 2 Marinette track sectional

MARINETTE – Fox Valley Lutheran earned 13 spots in next week’s state meet, and the Xavier girls had two at a WIAA Division 2 track & field sectional at Marinette High School on Friday.
The top four finishers in each event move on to the 2025 WIAA State Track & Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on June 6-7.
FVL’s Jacob Dobberstein won a pair of events, collecting two of four sectional titles for the Foxes.
Dobberstein won the boys 300-meter hurdles in 39.93 seconds and the triple jump with a leap of 42 feet, ¾ inch, and also was part of the Foxes’ 800 relay team, along with Kaleb Williams, Ian Holmes and Tyler Dequaine, that placed second in 1:30.94.
Dequaine won the boys long jump (21-9 ¼), and the girls 800 relay team of Alaina Patchett, Cailyn Groth, Mya Burleton and Sophia Wunderlich was first in 1:45.74 to claim sectional titles for the Foxes.
Williams placed second in both the 100 (11.03) and 200 (22.33), Blessings Kapande was third in the long jump (21-1½), and Grant Wolfrath took fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.87) to also advance to the state meet for the FVL boys.
Claire Fischer placed second in the 400 (59.29) and fourth in the 800 (2:21.22); Burleton took fourth int eh 200 (26.55); and the 400 relay team of Groth, Brooklyn Jokubek, Zuzanna Masinesko and Maya Van Schyndel finsihed fourth in 50.81 at qualify for state for the Fox Valley Lutheran girls.
Xavier’s Caroline Basehoar won a sectional title in the girls pole vault with a vault of 12-6, and joined Hailey Hafner, Faith Hafner and Lauren Erickson to placed fourth in the 1,600 relay in 4:08.00 to qualify for state for the Hawks.
